Marc is a convenient light rail for folks who live too far for Metro Rail to be practicable. However, Marc offers folks from the far side of Baltimore and the far reaches of Frederick County Maryland and close in West Virginia an alternative to a two hour (or more) commute by automobile. As real estate prices got higher and higher, families moved farther and farther away from the cities, transportation to and from work was by automobile or bus. Then came Metro and light rail. Of course, folks moved even farther out and enjoyed the quiet of the suburbs and the train had to follow. Most commuters still use the automobile because of the privacy. But, there's nothing like "leaving the car at home" for a relaxed commute.
